What I’m Excited About, A Mini Book Review, and Hot Man of Blogs

Yesterday, I posted an excerpt for The Kiss Blog Tour. I used Blogger instead of my LiveWire which I usually post from. What a mess! That’s all I can say about that.

Besides all that, I’m really excited about the following up and coming book, Heaven and Hell, by William Kendall.

Heaven

I’ve been beta-reading for Sir Wills and have one more chapter to go. This is an excellent read. I love all the characters, including the bad guys. The plot and action is fabulous. His descriptions of Israel are right on. And the country’s history and complexities are well researched. Chocolate chip cookies to you, my friend!

This book has all the elements to become a big success. And the other really cool thing about it is, it will be in the Indie market. In the near future, I will be posting my book review. Look for it.

Another Shelly-mini book review

Wildflower by Beth Muscat

wildflower

Sandy is a forty-seven year old woman. Mother of two grown kids and wife to a manwhore. After she and her kids take his ass to the cleaners, she goes about her life.

Nick is a twenty-seven  year old who owns his own gym where Sandy frequents. He can’t keep his eyes or thoughts off of her. One night on the beach finds them both love, but will one of Sandy’s children get between them? Find out.

This is a sweet love story about an older woman and a younger man without all the erotica crap. Beth is a tasteful writer and she leaves enough to get your imagination going without making you to blush.

I give this book Twenty-five Shiny-Shelly-Stars. Why give five when you can give more.

You can click on her name and title above. It will take you to Amazon where you’ll find her book either for Kindle or paperback.

Naming the Hot Man of Blogs

I know I haven’t done one of these in a while but its time. And today I’m naming two Hot Men. One is a total marketing guru. When I grow up in my marketing quest, I hope I’m pretty close to being like him. Do you know who it is yet? Well, I’ll tell you in a few.

The second guy is like the Santa Claus of the blogosphere. A gentleman even. He goes around spreading good will and cheer to almost all the bloggers. There is no way he sleeps. Do you know who he is?

The two Hot Man of Blogs are Arlee Bird and Alex J. Cavanaugh. You can click on their names to go visit their blogs.

One Last Thing,

If you notice to the right of your screen, I’ve been adding Indie and new authors’ books little by little. Check them out.

Also, I’m doing What’s Your Nosh Tuesdays to help promote new and Indie authors’ books and even excerpts on anything they may be working on. If you’re interested, leave me your e-mail or blog address.

That’s all for now folks!

Hugs and chocolate,

Shelly

Guest Blogger: Beth Muscat, Discussing, Avuncular??? Apogee??? Concupiscent??? Exactly!!!

Beth is a mom. A funny mom who loves kitties, hates snow, and loves to write about Wal Martians. She’s also the author of the Remember the Eyes Series, The Bracelet, and Wildflower. You can find her blog at  All Kidding Aside .

Beth, your title has me going WTF? So I’m really anxious to read what this is all about.

Here’s Beth Muscat, everyone.

Thank you Shelly for allowing me to invade your blog today.

I've thought about this and I can't be taciturn about this any longer.

Recently a friend of mine, William Kendall of Speak Of The Devil http://williamkendallbooks.blogspot.ca/ , wrote about some of his pet peeves. They were just random pet peeves, many that most of us have, or can at least relate to. I've written an earlier blog about some of my pet peeves as well. However, this that I'm writing about today just can't go without being said. It needs to be quelled immediately.

I just finished reading a book that is very popular right now. This author is making quite a name for herself. It's by E L James...if you haven't already guessed, the book is Fifty Shades Of Grey. The book was ok (I didn't like it and you can read my review here http://bethsreviewsandpromotions.wordpress.com/), but I've got a pet peeve with books like this. It's too verbose. I'm having trouble envisaging. I am completely nonplussed. WTF?

Ok, I'm going to be the first to say that I don't have an English major or any sort of educational writing background, but I do pride myself in being a pretty good speller. I sometimes will put a comma in a sentence where it doesn't belong, or I might be overzealous with an exclamation mark or two, but I hate reading books where I have to constantly look words up to find out their meaning.

Someone who likes using BIG words is Dean Koontz. I really like his books...he's one of my favorite authors, but I hate it when he uses words that I have to look up. Do authors do this to make themselves look educated, even though they may only have a high school diploma? Do they do this so that they can say that they actually used the Thesaurus they got for Christmas last year? Do they do this to be mulish, unbidden or cogent? Well, let me tell you, it's vitriolic...highly vitriolic.

Yes, these are just some of the words I had to look up from Fifty Shades Of Grey. I hate that. At the time I wrote this blog, I was half way through the book, and these are just a few of the words I had to look up. Here's one that wasn't in the dictionary, but was in the book: bilions. Yup. No dictionary definition came up for this one.

Lets see if you know what any of these mean, because I sure didn't.

debasement-I thought maybe this was to remove a basement, but apparently it means to reduce in quality or value, to lower in rank, dignity or significance. Oh. Would it not just be easier to say that you are beneath me now?

castigating-to criticize or reprimand severely, to punish in order to correct. Why not say you'll slap them silly if they don't do what you want them to do?

predilection-a tendency to think favourably of something in particular, partiality, preference. Oh, just give her some candy or flowers and you'll have her eating out of the palm of your hand.

disconsolate-hopeless, unhappy, inconsolable. I am disconsolate because I have to go look up the meaning of disconsolate.

gamboling-I thought she misspelled the word "gambling"...but, apparently it means to skip about, as in dancing or playing, frolic. Who knew?

askance-with suspicion, mistrust, disapproval, with a side glance. What's wrong with saying you messed up?

acquiesce-to assent tacitly, submit, or comply silently or without protest, agree, consent. Wow. Well....Why not just say, you will be my sex slave and you'll like it?

enervating-I thought maybe this was another way of saying rejuvenating or having lots of vim and vigor...apparently it is to deprive of force or strength, destroy the vigor of, weaken. Uh. The complete opposite. Why not just say, you have no free will, your weak, and I will take you? You are mine.

somnambulant-What??? I was sure there was no such word, but it means to sleepwalk. Who knew?

There. See what I mean. Yes, as you read the sentence, sometimes the words make more sense, but I shouldn't have to look up words in the dictionary because you're trying to show off. I'd like to quell this action, capitulate that I need to work on my use of words, commiserate that others will have to look up these same words while reading this book (and blog) and ad hoc this blog. I think I've mollified any words that you may have not known the meaning of.

Having now finished the book, look forward to part 2 of this blog about an author's use of BIG words. Boy, I'm feeling very obtuse.

Beth, thanks for enlightening us with these big and unknown words. I think I’ll print this out and set it next to my pile of TBR books. Lately, I’ve been a SLACKER again. You just made my job easy.

I hope all of you enjoyed this.

Also, wanted you all to know, I won’t be around until tomorrow. Glowstick and me are heading south to visit his mommy today. I’ll be around tomorrow to read blogs and make comments.

Have a great day!

Later in the ink all,

Shelly

Fortune Cookie Forecasts and A Book Review: Beth Muscat’s, Triology, Remember the Eyes and Emma Daniels, The Dream Spell

Good morning to all. It’s happy dances to me today. I’m off. I’m off. Yay! I can write today. Read blogs. Clean house. Bathe Sir Poops-A-Lot and Hair Ball.Grocery shop, too-boring.

Yesterday on the way home from work I picked up egg drop soup and four egg rolls. I wasn’t much into eating last night. My stomach’s been in knots for the last several days. Although, I got a little piggy over the fortune cookies. Ate two, which meant I got two fortunes.

Fortune one stated the following:

A sense of humor is one of your greatest assets.

Do the angels know me or what, my friends?

Fortune two stated:

Your planning will bring rich rewards.

My comment to that one: Well, it better after all my hard work and planning. Right?

Now for the book review you’ve all been waiting for:Beth Muscat’s, Triology, Remember the Eyes.

46f90cc4368757e55041b9c39f47e13ed65fd1f1-thumbNothing_Without_You_(Kindle)Infinite_Cover

Genre: Paranormal Romance

E-BOOK ONE:

Beth Muscat introduces you to her two main characters Riley and Michael in, Remember the Eyes. Both are planning to go to college. Riley lives in Canada. Michael lives in England. Both have special talents.

Riley is insecure about her looks but utilizes telekinetic powers, can hypnotize people, has psychic dream visions, and dreams of her past lives.

Michael assumes the worst about things and is short tempered, but is a talented musician and song writer.

Both end up at the same college. It is there Michael literally runs into Riley, knocking her on her bum. Riley recalls his eyes from many past life dreams. It’s love at first sight for both of them. But will their love survive when insecure Riley tells all-assuming-short-tempered Michael about her abilities?

In haste, he rebounds to Brenda, a psycho-be-otch, with similar telekinetic abilities. Will she come between the two? Will she kill Riley?

I suggest, get the book and read it for yourselves. You won’t be disappointed.

Price:  $1.19

E-Book Two:

Things are calm and smooth in the first couple of chapters. Riley and Michael have given each other special gifts for Christmas. Riley purchased plane tickets to England for both of them to spend the Holidays with his parents.

Michael surprised her with a beautiful sapphire ring and a promise to always be around to protect her.

Little do they know while they’re enjoying their holiday, psycho be-otch, Brenda and some mad professor are plotting the kidnapping and experimentation of Riley.

Will Michael be able to fulfill his promise? Will Riley be kidnapped? Tortured? If so, will she survive? Will Michael make it on time to save her?

There’s also a few unknown surprises in this one, too. Nope. Not going to tell you all either.

I suggest, get the book and read it for yourselves. You won’t be disappointed. You’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat.

Price: $3.09

BOOK THREE:

Riley and Michael celebrate thirty years of marriage together in this book. Their only daughter, Clara, gets married and becomes pregnant right away with a special baby. Riley’s quazi-parents are in a terrible accident. One survives. One doesn’t. Riley also finds out she’s got cancer.

This book was full of special twists, but I’m not going to tell you what they are. I’ll leave you with a few questions instead. What’s so special about Riley’s grandbaby? And, will Riley survive the cancer?

Also, you’ll need a box of tissues near-by for this read.

Price: $3.09

You can find all three on Amazon and Smashwords.

Beth also has a snarky sense of humor and keeps a blog @ http://allkiddingaside-beth.blogspot.com/

Also, Shelly gives Beth Muscat twenty shiny stars for a beautiful love story. Why give five when I can make the rules and give more? This is my blog, after all. Right?

That’s all for now folks!

I’ve got other things to do, you know. Like write.

 Happy blogging, writing, and reading!

Shelly

PS-Mercury goes retrograde tomorrow. He’ll be like this until August 26, 2011. So whatever publishing contracts or deals you’re trying to do, don’t. Wait until five days after the last day of this transit. Why?Because it will fall apart. Instead, edit and rewrite your MS.

  Hair Ball

HB: Are you going to tell me more story about Riley and Michael, Pansy Boy?

SPAL: You are such a little Hair Ball.

HB: You told me last week you’d finish telling me. And, I know you’ve been reading the Kindle. I saw you so you need to deliver. Today.

SPAL: (Rolls his eyes-something he learned to do in a house dominated by women and cats).

HB: I want a story! I want a story! (He plops in front of SPAL).

SPAL: Okay. But I get your Greenie Bone today if I do.

HB: That’s not fair!

SPAL: Is, too. You whiny little Hair Ball.

HB: (Groans).

SPAL: Okay. Once upon a time, a beautiful princess with special powers, named Riley, was kidnapped by an evil red head and a mad scientist.

HB: (He sucks in a gob of air).

SPAL: The evil red head wanted her dead so she could have Michael, the handsome prince to herself.

HB: I want to bite her! (He growls)

SPAL: The mad scientist wanted to conduct experiments on her. He wanted to know how her telekinesis worked along with her other special powers. He did horrible torturous things trying to get the information from her but Riley showed bravery, keeping her silence.

HB: Did Michael, the prince, come? Did he take out his sword and chop off their heads?

SPAL: No. Michael and Riley aren’t really royalty. They treat each other that way though. Let me finish.

HB: Oh.

SPAL: Her prince learned he had special powers, too, during the rescue mission. He can make himself invisible.

HB: Wow! I’d like to make myself invisible. Then I could eat what I wanted and nobody would catch me. Not even you, Pansy Boy.

SPAL: (Shakes his head) Let me tell the story without interruptions, please. Michael, the prince, saved Riley, the princess from the wicked people.

HB: But how?

SPAL: You really need to learn how to read. It’s not hard, you know.

HB: You’re my big brother. That’s what you’re for.

SPAL: That’s what you think.

HB: Whatever. Did he hump her in the end? That’s what  heroes do in the movies, you know.

SPAL: Learn to read so you can find out for yourself.

HB: He did! He humped her! He humped her!(He jumps up and down) And, they lived happily ever after!

SPAL: I don’t know about that. There’s another book on these two people.

Hair Ball

HB: What’re we going to talk about today?

SPAL: Don’t know, but you need to leave me alone right now. I’m busy.

HB: Doing what?

SPAL: A book review.

HB: What’s that?

SPAL: It’s like telling a story.

HB: I want to hear the story? I like stories. Mummsy tells me stories. Tell me. Tell me.

SPAL: Go away.

HB: No! I want a story. Tell me the story. (He jumps on SPAL)

SPAL: You’re such a hair ball.

HB: You’re a pansy. Story! Story! Story!

SPAL: Okaaaaay. (He growls)

HB: (He smiles)

SPAL: Let me tell you about three characters. Riley, Michael, and Brenda.

HB: Okay. Okay. (He claps his front paws together)

SPAL: Riley is an eighteen year old girl with special powers. She can do telekinesis, read minds, and has dreams of past lives. She also has premonitions.

HB: Uh-huh…uh-huh.

SPAL: Shh…you’re going to mess up the story.

HB: (Frowns)

SPAL: Anyway, Riley dreams about a man. Well, more than one. They’re all the same one because they all have the same eyes. Her dreams are about her past lives.

HB: Sounds like she had a lot of boyfriends.

SPAL: Shh…Back to the story. Anyway, she meets this guy named Michael at college the first day. He about runs her over. She looks at him and he her. Kapowy. It’s love at first sight. And, he’s got the same eyes the men in her dreams have.

HB: Does he hump her?

SPAL: No. (He crinkles up his nose) The boy has manners. Something you don’t. He’s a real gentleman. Unlike you. In fact, he and Riley fall in love. I think I already said that, though.

HB: Who’s Brenda? Is she a humper?

SPAL: For the most part, yes, but she does worse things than hump. She comes between Riley and Michael. She’s got special powers, too.

HB: Ohh…

SPAL: She doesn’t leave them alone. She’s like a flee. She’s hard to get rid off.

HB: I don’t like flees. They make me itch. What else? Do Riley and Michael hump in the end and live happily ever after? Do they use essential oils to get rid of Brenda? Since she’s a flee.

SPAL: (He rolls his eyes). Let’s get this straight. There’s. No. Humping. In. The. Book. It’s a sweet love story with an evil person trying to tare two people apart. But, Riley’s special powers save the day. That’s all I’m telling you.

HB: How does Riley’s special powers save the day?

SPAL: You need to read it yourself. You can find it at Smashwords and Amazon. Mummsy bought it for a $1.19. It’s an e-book. You can only read it on the computer or Kindle, a Nook, and other devices like that.

HB: Did you like the book?

SPAL: Of course I did, stupid. It deserves as many stars as there are in the night sky. And, there’s two more books that go with it. I’ll tell you about one next week.

HB: Do they hump it in that one?

SPAL: (Covers his face and looks down, shaking his head).

Saturdays with Sir Poops-A-Lot: Fine Dinnerware and Beth Muscat’s, Remember the Eyes and Nothing Without You

Sir Poops-A-Lot and Hair Ball0407111059-00

SPAL: Blogo-schmogo-schmucko-roo!

HB: Huh? Why are you repeating what mummsy’s been mumbling all week.

SPAL: There’s still something wrong with Blogspot.

HB: Oh!

SPAL: Wish I could hypnotize it like I can mummsy.

HB: You can’t hypnotize mummsy.

SPAL: Can, too.

HB: Can not!

SPAL: Too!

HB: Show me then, Pansy!

0317110740-00

SPAL: You stand and stare. Concentrate on what you want. I don’t even have to touch her like Riley does in Beth Muscat’s book, Remember the Eyes and Nothing Without You.

HB: Ooooo….you’ve been playing with mummsy’s Kindle.

SPAL: Not! I’ve been reading. I’m learning a lot from Riley. Hypnotizing someone takes a lot of concentration. If it weren’t for my reading skills and these two great books by Beth Muscat we wouldn’t be getting dinner on mummusy’s good dinner plates. We’d still be eating out of what they call the DOG BOWLS.

HB: So.

SPAL: Didn’t you know DOG is really a bad word?

HB: Nah-uh.

SPAL: Well, it is. And, I refuse to do anything a DOG might do.
