I love the word pummel. Isn’t it beautiful. Its got an undie hump and four humpty-humps. It rumbles in my mouth before it rolls off my tongue. Tingles run through me. What a sensation! Really. It’s a great word. I think I’m addicted.
Yup. I put the word into my FIND. It found two-hundred throughout my MS. Everything pummels in Secondhand Shoes.
Tears pummel lashes. People pummel to floors and into each other. Memories pummel into minds. A pit bull pummels an officer. Objects pummel, too.
I love this word and I’ve stood before my critters. Shame on me. Tisk. Tisk. Tisk. Fingers and tongues went a wagging. “Use your Thesaurus, girlfriend!”
Anyone have a favorite action verb they love to use? I hope it’s not just me.
Anyway, if you’ve got time go check out bits and pieces of my MS, Secondhand Shoes @ http://www.secondhandshoesnovel.blogspot.com/ or go to the right of your screen and scroll down to click on the link.
That’s all for now folks!
Happy blogging, reading, and writing!
Shelly
PS Tomorrow I promise you all naughty-naughty book review.
Don't pummel the word to death!
ReplyDelete(Just kidding....)
@Norma: Smiles to you! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. We ALL have stuff like that. I find that my characters all have words they use too much, so my favorite word change from one MS to another.
ReplyDelete@Jolene: Schwoo...I'm glad I'm not the only one.
ReplyDeleteMine is feel. I know, nowhere as creative a pummel. I had to comb through my mani and trash them all.
ReplyDeleteI have not used pummel once. Can you believe that? And it's a great word. I use the thesaurus often. However, I have the bad habit of using the words "still" and "actually" because I use them when I'm speaking. Constantly have to watch myself.
ReplyDeleteNaughty-naughty book review? Woohoo! Bring it on.
Do you think this speaks of some hidden issue about wanting to pummel someone? An ex maybe?
ReplyDeleteLOL. I've never ever used the word myself.
I think one of the funniest words in the English Language is pith or pithy. When guys talk about their pith helmets I just crack up for no reason at all. How's that for a pithy comment?
Can I pummel my idiot ex-brother-in-law?
ReplyDelete@Nikki: Yeah. Feel is a fiter word. Gotta describe what the character feels. Not always an easy job.
ReplyDelete@Laila: There's a of no-no words.
@Eve: Nah. I wouldn't pummel him..well, maybe with words.
@Wills: Pummel the sucker down.
Hey there, Shelly
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago you mentioned on my blog about the opportunity to do a guest post with you. I have been out with dental surgury so it took a bit to respond. Does the offer still stand? PS I always love reading your posts!
@Russo: Definitley. How about the last week in July? Write one of your funny, encouraging posts.
ReplyDeleteOh...Yes, I guess you can over use a word. I've never pummeled anyone in my MS, but I can see you like it. 200 times, eh? That's a lot...however, yes, while a thesaurus would be good, there are some words that are like "that"...I like that...nothing wrong with it. LOL Too many pummels...? Yeah, that might be more of a problem. LOL
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the word "murmur." It has the same kind of easy sound as your "pummel."
