Blog Hopping and the Technologically Challenged

What in the world does it mean to ‘grab my button’? I know it’s not anything like ‘grab my arse’. Yup. That’s right. I’m technologically challenged. OMG. When I visit other blog hoppers blogs I see these buttons. Lots of buttons. Flashing buttons. Pretty buttons. Sometimes scary buttons.

Under each little picture-grab-my-button-things there’s a box filled with computer chatter. What the frig am I supposed to do? I haven’t a clue. Tried clicking on the button to save as picture. Doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong?

Yup. I ‘m doing that blog hopping thing. OMG. It’s making my eye-brains cross and my head itch.

Wednesday I signed up with Blog Frog. Filled in the information form. Gave my e-mail and a password to sign in. By Thursday I’d gotten at least twenty or so BFFs to follow me. All I had to do was click on the ‘Follow’ button below their pictures. OMG. Couldn’t do that without signing in. Tried to sign in but it wouldn’t let me. Tried signing in twenty times and IT. WOULDN’T. LET. ME.

So I thought, I’ll sign in under Facebook. Now I’ve got two accounts. OMG.

Somebody HELP ME! My brain is melting or, it’s already melted.                  .

Anyway, happy blogging, reading, and writing!!!

Shelly

  1. I learned by trial and error. When you "grab" a button, you are copying the "html" that is the computer lingo for that button. The goal is to copy and paste this "html" code onto your blog (open up the design section on blogger and create a sidebar area where you can paste the "html" code). Then their button will show up on your site.

I am no expert, my site is plain compared to the fancier sites. I have no button, no banner, a generic background, no extra tabs. I am still learning. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to do everything, but I do know people hire out these types of things. It can become pretty pricy.

  2. Glad it's you and not me. I'm already suffering from multiple web identities.

When you get it all figured out, I hope you'll post directions, O'pioneer.

  3. I'm with ya, Shelly...I wanted to change the look of my blog...so, I went and grabbed the humongous HTML code and put it in the (I thought) appropriate place...well, luckily I did it with one of the blogs that I don't use anymore (I let my almost 8 year old use it to 'play' with), because, underneath the old one is the new one...so, you can't see the "new look"...

So, I'm in the same boat. If only I were computer saavy...

  4. Shelly, you expressed my frustrations perfectly. This social media mania advances at such a rapid pace that I alway feel like a beginner. I'm glad someone left a comment explaining how to use the html code. About your signing in, that's strange. Let me know if you are still having problems and maybe I can help, one beginner to another...that is :)

  5. Tell you what...when you figure it out give me a ring! I'm still completely technologically illiterate. If it weren't for my hubby I may not even have an email. My little sister set up my MySpace page when that was popular. Oh well...maybe when we're bestselling authors we can just hire someone to set everything up for us and all we'll have to do is write.

  7. Hehe - grab my button - made me laugh. It's all part of the blogging experience, I'm afraid. I've only recently been introduced to blog hopping and Blogfrogger too. I may need red wine.

  8. There is a reason I don't blog hop--actually 4 or 5 reasons. But one of them is exactly that I don't know what I'm doing, or supposed to do. And when someone "gives" me an award and this requires me to "do" several things--I have to refuse. I just simply don't have time for all that stuff. I'm a writer first, I'll visit you guys' blogs second, do some posting etc. That's it.
HOpe you get things figured out. I just don't have the patients/time for it.

  14. @Lorlei: I've thought of taking your route or just ease up my pace with the blogging. I really do need to take it easy or, rather easier. Have a ton of edits to do on Secondhand Shoes and am 19 chapters into the next book which has taken on a life of its own even though I mapped it out.
